Ko Lipe of Thailand

About: 

Pronounced as Ko-Lee-Pay. Ko Lipe is a small island which is present in the Andang-Rawi Archipelago of the Andaman Sea. It’s the southernmost island in Thailand and it’s one of the many Butang islands which are located in Tarutao National Park. KoLipe literally means “Island Paper”.

Located at: Lies at the Satun Province of Southwest Island. It lies close to the Malaysian border.

History: 

Every place has its own History and Geography which makes it more interesting and makes it the best reason for travelling purpose. Ko Lipe Island was discovered by Chao Ley who were sea gypsies by their origin and they would travel from island to island in search of the best fishing areas to feed themselves and for the tribe. Chao Ley found a permanent home on these islands and ever since they and their tribes remained here.

Climate: 

The climate of KoLipe is quite unpredictable. The island has only 2 seasons namely: Wet & Dry. From April to September the climate is chill and there are pours with storms. But these storms aren’t harmful as you think. March to April is the hottest months in Ko Lipe. If you plan a tour to this spot then November to February is the best season.

Tourist Spots: 

Here the beaches are clean with white sandy beaches with crystal clear water. And it also encourages the tourists to keep the beach clean and unpolluted by the Responsible Tourism scheme.

• Sunset Beach 

It’s known as Hat Pramong. It’s a small bay located to the west of the islands. As the name says, it has quite a spectacular view during the sunset. A walk around the beach is quite peaceful and changes your mind. Accomodation varies from thatched huts to private Bungalows that lie in the shady regions of the forest. It also has small Coral gardens.

• Sunrise beach 

Also known as Hat Chao Ley, it’s a long stretch of wide Bay. The Bay is shallow too. During the Low season the weather is pleasant with cool breezes. There are schools, Hospitals and a small village called the Chao Ley is present here. Only few restaurants are present here.

• Pattaya Beach 

It’s the main beach that is a sheltered bay with soft powdered fine sand with crystal clear water. Wide range of accommodations is also provided. Advent of Snorkellingis encouraged here. There are multiple resorts, clubs and bars to spend your time. Highly entertainment beach.

Adventure sports: 

Scuba Diving & Snorkelling: 

Snorkelling and Scuba Diving is the only way to enjoy the natural beauty of KoLipe. These islands are famous for these sports. There are 2 islands just off the Sunrise beach namely:

• KoKra   & 

• KoUsen 

Swimmers should swim with utmost care because the currents are too strong in these areas. Snorkelling through the KoRawi Park helps you to spot the blue spotted Stingrays. KoLokhoi has many coral gardens and gives you once in a lifetime sights.

Other than this Diving, Swimming, Boating, Kayaking and hiking are also carried out.
