The treasures of Honduras
Honduras is at its north coast to score Caribbean. The Roatan and Utila are two of the important islands, which attract here in the offshore waters of travelers, and they both offer completely different holiday experiences.
Roatan and Utila are among the Bay Islands. This island group belongs to a largely hidden beneath the sea mountain chain, which consists mainly of coral, but also partly of volcanic origin. The islands are accessible from the port city of La Ceiba on the northern coast of Honduras from the boat and show two very different sides of the Caribbean as a tourist region.
Roatan is located approximately 65 miles from the coast of Honduras, and is about 125 square kilometers, with the largest of the islands of the Islas de la BahÃa. It presents itself as a Caribbean island, as it expects the average tourist. Large cruise ships dock here regularly, the hotels offer every imaginable comfort, the beaches are absolutely heavenly beautiful. Tourism is currently fishing the main income source for the 30,000 inhabitants of the island.
Countless restaurants treat the palate of travelers with local and exotic dishes. Spa facilities and pampering to lure many operators entertain tourists with tours on the island. Anyone interested in the local flora and fauna is well advised to take a walk through the gardens. Also, the water-supply is large, especially divers are drawn to this region because Roatan is located very close to the Belize Barrier Reef, one of the largest coral reefs in the world.
Not far from Roatan you can experience a different, still very unspoiled undeveloped side of the Caribbean. Only 42 square kilometers, the island of Utila is large, on the one port to a 1 ½-hour trip from La Ceiba on the ferry. The town seems like attracts mainly backpackers, young people are rebounding away from the Western civilization and something original, they discover something new.
Part of the island is uninhabited and completely natural; the Coast invites you to its picturesque underwater world for diving. In small, cozy guest houses you can rent a room for little money, are tourist facilities, it hardly ever. A few large hotels and also several dive schools are found even here, in comparison to other Caribbean islands of Utila is very original. Here, you leave on the approximately 3,000 residents, far from luxury and crowded tourist attractions. It is about to experience the original spirit of this region and to experience yourself.
Oh yea.... absolutely on my bucket list!
